Leeds medical student to present on social media in surgery at The Royal College of Surgeons

Benjamin Wood, a medical student from the University of Leeds has been invited to present his ideas on the role of social media for modern surgeons to an audience at the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons in London.

Wood, who entered the Annual Professor Harold Ellis Medical Student Prize For Surgery – a national award open the all UK medical students- was among the 15 contestants short-listed from over 70 essay submissions on the topic of whether public health is a surgical concern. The short-listed candidates were then invited to present at the Royal College and the winner awarded a £500 prize.

Reflecting on the experience Wood said:  “Although I didn’t win, it was an honour to represent Leeds Medical School and furthermore it has given me great impetus to follow my professional aspirations in becoming a surgeon”.
