National meeting to be a ‘frugal’ affair

Jugaad or ‘frugal’ innovation will be the theme for the HTC’s 2017 National Meeting, to be held in Leeds this September.

Jugaad is a Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi word which essentially means finding a low-cost solution to a problem in an intelligent way, and the concept is being used as a new way to think constructively and differently about innovation.

Speakers already confirmed for the event include Jaideep Prabhu, Professor of Marketing and Jawaharlal Nehru Professor of Indian Business at Judge Business School, University of Cambridge. Professor Prabhu is a co-author of Jugaad Innovation: Think Frugal, Be Flexible, Generate Breakthrough Growth, described by The Economist as ‘the most comprehensive book yet’ on the subject of frugal innovation. His most recent book, Frugal Innovation, was published in February 2015 and won the Chartered Management Institute’s Management Book of the Year Award 2016.

Another confirmed speaker is Professor Tony Young, Consultant Urological Surgeon at Southend University Hospital and Director of Medical Innovation at Anglia Ruskin University. Professor Young was appointed as National Clinical Director for Innovation for NHS England in 2014 and last year became the first National Clinical Lead for Innovation. In 2015, he founded the National Clinical Entrepreneur Programme, now the world’s largest entrepreneurial workforce development programme for clinicians.

The National Meeting takes place on 26 September 2017 at Leeds Town Hall from 9.30am to 5pm. Further speakers will be announced over the next few months and registration will be through Eventbrite.
